Last of 2011: Lessons Learnt.

2011 hasn't been much of a good year. Many things happened, positive and negative. But it just seemed like there were more negative ones than positive. So I thought, perhaps it is the time of the year to really sit down and think through some things, take some time out and reflect seriously.

2011 came out to be a year which felt wasted. Perhaps it was some sort of a long ORD break. ORD came in Feb, after which was much nuaing and planning for a crazy Europe backpacking trip. ORD was kinda bittersweet. 2 years of life in army had been good I must admit. I was lucky enough to get a slack job, meeting new people, and also trying to understand myself and how the world works a little more.

Europe trip was done with Ben, Subra and Louis. I just can't help but feel that the trip was outright suay for me. Getting pickpocketed and managing to escape, yet unlucky a second time with my entire bag stolen. Camera, iPod, notes I jotted down throughout the trip together with contacts of many people we've met along the way, all lost. Young and reckless? I still don't think that it's my fault, the thieves were just too professional. Perhaps it's just not something that Singaporeans (coming from such a safe city) would ever understand, the importance of guarding your own things.

Nevertheless, looking back, there were still good times of getting shocked at the size of the pissing boy in Belgium, getting zonked out in Amsterdam, getting blown away on the ferry in Hamburg, getting blown away (again) by the BG in Berlin, stunned by the quirky weather of Dresden, wowed by the sheer beauty of the city of Prague, knowing that there's the UFO bridge in Bratislava, having the massive Hungarian meal in Budapest, getting lost in the complex waterways of Venice, impossible number of poses with the leaning tower in Pisa, visiting Michelangelo's David (fake) in Florence, the rich history of Rome, the most beautiful side of Mother Nature in Interlaken and finally with my bag getting stolen in Paris.

My most favouritest city has got to be Interlaken, a clear winner with its quiet surroundings, friendly people and the stunning Alpine Alps. There is no doubt I'll be back again, definitely.

Coming back from the long trip was some time left to recuperate before school started. Lost quite a bit of weight during the entire trip. The best decision during this period of May to July was probably an impromptu decision to go to Bali with Kai Keng. My first time flying alone. Waited at the cui airport alone for several hours as we were taking different flights. Nevertheless, the wait was worth it when we reached our accommodations. Bali is a beautiful city with endless beaches and rich history. Excellent place to wind down and relax before the sheer hecticness of uni life awaits me.

School started and ended in a flurry. 4 months, not quite knowing what I've actually learned, not quite knowing friends, not quite doing anything at all. It all felt too fast, too furious. Maybe I should try to find what i truly am interested in.

All in all, 2011 made me feel like a cat. Sleep, eat, wake up, crawl around, sit around, fall asleep.. Didn't accomplish much at all.

Let's hope 2012 would be better.

Op. 9 No. 2

It was a fine afternoon which after much delay, we finally arrived at our destination to fly kite. Yup fly kite. So there's the picture with lotsa kites in the beautiful blue sky.

And there's kumar and muthu prancing around the endless grassland trying to fly the budget $2 kite. Isn't it just sweet to see friends working hand in hand to get something done.

Look at just how skillful mr xiaoyi is at making ms tracey laugh. Don't you just feel like laughing together with them now? Let's all laugh together now- Ha Ha Ha.

The budget kite did manage to fly up super high at least once- 50m + 35m = 85m in the sky and after that it got tangled with a bee kite and it went down.. and down.. into the sea -.- lol. But like how life is full of surprises, we manage to catch the first ndp rehearsal for this year! So there were the fighter jets and helicopters and of course the fireworks.

And after a long long time, finally the latecomer came. Here's a special picture for her.

Another day, we went down to a REAL ndp rehearsal thanks to LEON CHER for the tickets! There was jek xiaoyi kurniawan and me. Wasn't exactly a very nice parade thanks to the drizzle, heat and the squeeziness of the seats. But nevertheless, there were still a few very exciting moments-

Look who will be performing at the parade!

And GASP. Wise words from a wise man indeed. LOL.

It was then timbre with a couple of drinks and good company. Pretty chillax. Tried a new bulmer cider which good too.

MAGIC.

I can guess your birthday in 10 steps:

1. Multiply the number of the day on which you were born by 5.
2. Add 17.
3. Double the answer.
4. Subtract 13.
5. Multiply by 5
6. Subtract 8.
7. Double the answer.
8. Add 9
9. Add the number of the month in which you were born.
10.Subtract 203.

11. Be so afraid. :D

OH YEAH OH RIGHT OH DAMN.

Can somebody please give the YOG comittee a good shake to wake up their idea?

I mean, it's already bad enough that the cheer didn't get vetted by someone, or just anybody, with even the slightest pinch of musical aptitude. Okay, then this cheer just got approved by who-knows-who and the best part- it starts getting into the radio. You know, everytime I heard this OH YEAH OH YEAH OH YEAH going on, I'll go into a state of involuntary spasm to annihilate the radio. Yes, ANNIHILATE. The worst part is when I am in the car, cos I can't really kick the radio in the car cos the speakers are everywhere.

Damn.

Bad enough already, they even came up with some dance moves. Picture speaks a thousand words, YouTube speaks a billion. So just watch.

0:32- This girl in grey gives the you-got-to-be-kidding-me look and secretly sniggers at herself.
0:44- This guy in a dark blue polo gives the serious i've-got-to-take-a-video-of-this-epic-joke-to-post-on-youtube look.
1:58- [left] The lady was obviously cheated by all the noise into wasting energy to walk to the side of the shopping mall to watch erm.. I don't really know how to describe. [centre] Clearly amused, but is this cheer suppose to be funny? [right] Even the old auntie is amused. You can even see her nodding in approval.
2:02- I guess the breakdance was there to diffuse the tense and awkward situation cos I don't suppose everybody can breakdance. But even that was quite epic fail. You can see this guy second from bottom left in light blue polo and brown pants who was clearly lost, or either that he just fumbled. The guy on his right was even better! He stood up for a second and realised that everybody was posing so he decided to jump around to act 參加.

I'll be happy if they can just stop playing the cheer on the radio.

Anyway, FAOCC and safari is finally over so.. HELLO LULL!

8th ASC.

Yesterday, my first batch of trainees passed out. Didn't manage to go for the parade even though I wanted to, due to FAOCC trainings. Looking at some of their facebook comments about them passing out made me rather disappointed. I wondered if it was due to the instructors' poor ability to manage this small group of trainees or was it just purely their attitude towards the course. I recalled being at least rather happy and proud to finally pass out as a specialist, even though, not as an officer. But I could see the pride and joys of being a specialist, things that an officer could never get to experience and do. Rank was never an issue, as I knew that respect needed to be earned, whereas rank was just this flabby piece of cloth we all wear on our uniform. So far, I've seen my fair share of things in the army. I believe nobody dare disagree with me that a cui officer is still better than a zai spec/man. Seriously, some man are much better than officers and they end up being man perhaps due to their educational level. This is one part which I disagree with how the army operates, splitting the rank system into officers and wospecs.

3 more days of exsafari then it's finally..

SUMMERLULL!

DEAD blog.

Sometimes, I feel that my super mundane life does not do any justice to this poor little blog of mine. It's like almost dead.. But occasionally I'll come over and conduct some kind of CPR on it, then it'll surge back to life. Sigh but what to do. I am already trying my best to spice up my life with random events. Like forcing myself to go for nightsout instead of just lazing around in bunk.

I really love long weekends. Long weekends = Shorter work week.

Thank God for Good Friday. How I wish that everyday is Good. Good Monday, Good Tuesday, Good Wednesday..

Anyway, finally something cool happened to me. Went to the first ever bloggers' symposium organised by nuffnang and joined the photo contest. AND I WON!.. THE S90!

Hopefully it'll bring me some joy and fun. And thanks to Jack and Ryan for going there with me.

Doing guard again this friday.

Oh yes and talking about the flying fish in my last post, 0185 appeared TWICE in previous week's 4D results. Of course numbers not in exact order. Talk about DIVINE INTERVENTION.

Pigs can't fly. Fishes can.
